The three Pinay-directed films below will be screening at the 2015 Aichi International Women’s Film Festival at Nagoya, Japan. This film festival runs from September 1 to 6, 2015.
Ida Anita del Mundo’s ‘K’na, the Dreamweaver‘ was first shown in the 2014 Cinemalaya where it won the Special Jury Award for the New Breed category and Best Production Design. This story about a T’boli weaver has since then made the rounds of pop-up screenings in schools and provinces. ‘K’na, the Dreamweaver’ was showcased again in the recently concluded Cinemalaya 2015. Del Mundo takes both directorial and writing credits for this film.
‘Mga Kababaihan ng Malolos‘ is a musical depicting a time when women struggle to assert their place in a challenging society. This film was jointly directed by Sari and Kiri Dalena. Sari won Best Director for the film ‘Ka Oryang’ in the 2011 Cinema One Originals Film Festival, while Kiri bagged the Best Cinematography (together with Neil Daza) for the same film.
‘That Thing Called Tadhana‘ became such a cult hit in the 2014 Cinema One Originals fest that it was shown in commercial cinemas soon after. It firmly placed director Antoinette Jadaone in the ranks as one of the best in the pop romantic comedy genre. The ilm stars Angelica Panganiban and JM de Guzman. ♦
